Humpty woke up this morning and i realised her right eye didn't open as wide as her left. Thought nothing about it cos maybe she was still sleepy(which she always is).

This evening while bf cleaned e cage, put her in the exercise ball.. still half open BUT i realised the area surround her right eye is a lil reddish and has the wet-tish look.

What is it and what can i do to make her feel better? Looking at her liddat i'm v sad. :(

Does Humpty stay with another hamster? If she does, perhaps the eye got scratched during their play. Otherwise it could be something that irritates her eye. This could be dust, beddings, etc.

You can help her by cleaning the eye with boiled water (slightly warm, NOT hot). If you have CS, drop some CS onto the eye. Do this a few time a day.

If it is just a irritation, the eye will heal quickly. If problem persists, best to consult a vet.

If the problem recur, suggest that you identify the source of the problem. Change beddings for a start.

Hope this helps. :)

Oh dear.

The bedding could be the same. But beddings come from different batches and perhaps this particular batch contain particles (whatever) that do not agree with Humpty. So you might want to replace the beddings with kitchen towel for the time being.

It could be a viral infection to her eyes. As you don't have CS with you, it's best to consult the vet.

Hope Humpty recovers soon.

You can get CS from a member here

Replace beddings with kitchen tissues for a start.

Anybody has more information about this?

You know when us humans feel warm when we go to bed, and then wake up, we find we have more eye shit? >.<

Could it be that the hamster feels warm, so when they wake up from their sleep, their eyes got those white white thingy (eye shit)? Like humans liddat >.< As for the redness, maybe the hamster is trying to take out the eye shit, so keep scratching till red?

Just wondering, cause my sapphire had this problem before. Usually I just wipe it away.
